# Save a selection

## Name a selection

A selection will be given the default name of ‘New Selection *N*’ when it is first created. To rename a selection, simply over-type the name in the text box.

The following example, shows a selection renamed to be ‘Bristol Households’.

You can save a selection in the following ways:

## Drag and drop save

1. Click on the icon to the left of the selection name.
2. Drag and drop the icon onto the appropriate **Files** folder.

This creates a .xml containing the selection logic you have defined.
