# Sequence number column

You can add a sequence number column into a Data Grid which allocates a row number to each individual record.

## Adding a sequence number column

To add the column, from the Data Grid toolbar:

- Select **Add User Code**

In the window that opens:

- Enter the column **Heading Description** - e.g. Row Number
- Click to select the **Row Number (starting from)**
- Enter the number from which you wish to start the sequence, click **Add** and then build the display

A new column is inserted and each row allocated its own sequence number:

> Behind the scenes it is an expression being used to add row number information into the Data Grid display. Should you wish to amend the sequence numbers:

- Right-click on the column header and select **Edit Expression...**

This will take you to the Expression window where you simply amend the starting number inside the brackets

- Click **OK** and rebuild the display
