# Include and exclude audiences

You can control who enters the customer journey and receives your communications by including and excluding target segments.

## Including an audience

To include an audience:

1. Open your journey and click your **Target Segment** step.
2. Under **Including**, click **\+ Add Audience**.
3. Search for and select the required **Audience**.

   > **Note**
   >
   > To add multiple audiences, use the checkboxes on the left to select all required audiences.
4. Click **Add**.

   The selection count displays as of the time you applied it. A gross count and net count appear for each included segment.

   > **Note**
   >
   > The gross count displays immediately without saving. To view the latest deduplicated net count and overall gross and net counts, click **Refresh Counts** at the top of the panel.

5. Drag and drop audiences to reorder them in the list. Click **Refresh Counts** to recalculate net counts based on the new order.

   > **Tip**
   >
   > The order of audiences affects deduplication. Moving audiences up or down changes how overlapping contacts are counted.

You have now included all your audiences for this campaign.

## Excluding an audience

To exclude an audience:

1. Open your journey and click your **Target Segment** step.
2. Under **Excluding**, click **\+ Add Audience**.
3. Search for and select the required **Audience**.

   > **Note**
   >
   > To add multiple audiences, use the checkboxes on the left to select all required audiences.
4. Click **Add**.

Excluded audiences are removed from your campaign targeting, even if they appear in your included audiences.

## Additional options

Expand the **option menu** on an audience to access:

- **Add Limit**: Restrict the number of contacts included
- **View Details**: See audience composition and criteria
- **Delete**: Remove the audience from your campaign
