Data Grid: How do I export records?

To extract the records from a selection into an output file:

  • Click on Browse Grid View

NOTE: You can right click on any columns and change the display to Codes or Descriptions if necessary.

  • Enter a name for the file to be exported. The default name will be 'Data Grid' or the name of the template, if used.

The example below shows a Data Grid named as 'Birmingham Households'.

  • Click on the Export As menu option to bring up the Export options as shown below.

"Export As" Options

  • Select the Output Format from the list box.

  • Choose how to output the header row. You can specify whether to output the descriptions of the variables, the names of the variables or whether to exclude the header row in the extracted file.

With a delimited file:

  • Specify the character used as the Delimiter. This can be either a comma, tab or simicolon. The default setting is comma.

  • Choose the character used as an alphanumeric enclosure. This can be either a single quote, a double quote or nothing if no enclosure is required. The default setting is a double quote.

  • If you require a different character to be used for numeric enclosing, then select from the dropw down list 'Other' and specify the encloser. The default setting will be to not enclose numeric fields.

  • If you require an authorisation code to export your data, tick the box and enter it here.

  • You can also choose to create a reference (URN) file as well as the specified output file. If you wish to do so, check the 'Output Reference file with this Output' box.

  • Click OK.

  • Drag and drop the icon to the left of the Data Grid name onto the File Explorer.
