Constraint settings
You can enhance your marketing efforts by applying constraints to your campaigns.
These settings include contact strategies and volume constraints, both allowing you to manage the pace and volume of your communications to prevent overwhelming your audience or your system. They also enable you to carefully plan and execute your campaigns for optimal impact and efficiency.
Note: A badge displays at the top of your campaign whenever you’ve applied one or more constraints.
This makes it easier to identify campaigns with active constraints at a glance.
Understanding constraints
Let's understand the benefits of each of these constraints and how to effectively incorporate them into your campaigns.
Volume constraints
You can manage recipient numbers and communication frequency with volume constraints, ensuring a balanced plan that prevents system overloads and keeps your audience engaged.
The key benefits include:
-
Limiting the number of communications sent out within a specified timeframe
-
Ensuring a consistent and manageable flow of messages
-
Targeting a specific number or percentage of recipients per campaign run or over defined periods
For detail on setting up your volume constraints, see: Applying volume constraints.
Daily email limit
Limit the number of emails you send per day to avoid being marked as spam and to manage system load.
Constraint settings:
-
Volume: 5,000 emails
-
Timeframe: Per day
This ensures that email sending rates remain within acceptable limits, reducing the risk of being flagged as spam.
Campaign run size control
Restrict the number of recipients for your marketing campaign to a percentage of the total audience to manage your budget and focus on a high-value segment.
Constraint settings:
-
Volume: 10% of total audience
-
Timeframe: Per campaign run
This allows marketers to focus efforts and budget on the most valuable segments of the audience.
Contact strategies
You manage the frequency and medium of communication with your audience through contact strategies. This helps avoid overwhelming recipients with messages and helps prevent disengagement or unsubscribes.
With contact strategies you can:
-
Control the frequency of communications and prevent over-contacting individuals to maintain a positive relationship with your audience
-
Customise the communication approach based on whether you are targeting individuals or households
-
Select specific channels for communication or apply the strategy across all channels
For detail on setting up your contact strategies, see: Applying contact strategies.
Weekly newsletter
Ensure your subscribers don't receive the same newsletter more than once per week.
Constraint settings:
-
Target: Every person
-
Volume: 1 communication
-
Channel: Email
-
Frequency: 1 per week
This prevents subscribers from feeling overwhelmed by multiple emails in a short period, increasing the likelihood of engagement with each newsletter.
Cross-channel promotions
Limit the number of promotional messages you send to customers across different channels to once a month.
Constraint settings:
-
Target: Every household
-
Volume: 1 campaign
-
Channel: Any channel
-
Frequency: 1 per month
This ensures a balanced approach to promotions, preventing over-contacting customers and avoiding message fatigue.
Note: If you are in View mode, you can still see summary details of your constraint settings.
1. On your campaign journey, click the option menu.
2. Click Constraint settings.
Note: Using constraints automatically turns on Record communications history, and you are notified of this requirement.
