Journey sections
Orbit journey builder sections and path redirects help you streamline and organise complex campaign journeys. By redirecting paths into sections, you can manage intricate journeys and targeted communications more efficiently while keeping the main diagram clean and navigable.
With journey sections you can:
-
Build complex structures with a simple, expandable design
-
Set up path redirects for rules, like removing individuals who cancel a product or opt out
-
Redirect paths for customers who complete goals and send follow-up messages to acknowledge achievements
Sections can range from simple to highly complex, with all the functionality of the main diagram available within a section
Scenarios
You might want to bring two different paths together to combine audience segments based on their interactions with your campaign. Or maybe you want to loop a particular audience segment back to a previous part of the campaign journey. Journey sections and path redirection make it all possible, allowing you to craft the ideal customer journey and by redirecting paths to any other part of your campaign.
See Example use cases for more insight into how to use sections.
Creating campaign sections
To create a campaign section:
-
From the Campaigns screen, select the campaign you want to open.
-
Click Journey.
-
There are two ways to add a new section.
-
Click the + sign above the journey step where you want to start a new section, then click New Section.
-
Click + New Section below your journey.
-
-
This creates a new campaign section. The preceding journey step becomes a Path redirect.
Note: When creating a section, all steps after a path redirect are automatically added.
-
Expand the option menu on the section, then click Rename.
Note: Give your sections meaningful names to easily identify their purpose.
You can now add more paths to redirect your main diagram to this section.
-
To redirect more paths to your section, expand the option menu on your section, then click Edit.
-
Click + Add Path.
-
Select the path(s) you want to redirect into the section, then click Add.
-
When you have all the relevant paths leading into the section, click Apply.
Note: Clicking an arrow below a path redirect step takes you to the relevant section and automatically expands.
-
You can also redirect additional paths to a section by clicking the + sign on any path on the journey diagram, either from the main diagram or within any section. To do this, click Path Redirect, select the section, then click OK.
Note: If no sections exist, then a Path redirect step won't be an option in the Add Step dialog.
-
You can now copy your sections steps and reuse them in other parts of your campaign journey. For more detail, see Copy and reuse journey steps.
-
To save your campaign, click Save.
-
To publish your campaign, click Publish.
The Publish Summary screen shows details of any sections with redirected paths, including the type of journey step that redirected to the section.
Note: You can reorder your sections using drag-and-drop functionality.
Note: Adding a Message step after a section requires a Time Delay step. A To-Do warning notifies you of this requirement.
Note: If you want to delete a section, and the section has no parent items, then a dialog appears indicating that all child steps will be deleted.

Exit handling
In managing a campaign with multiple Interaction splits, you can improve exit handling by creating an Exit Section. To do so, you redirect all Bounced and Unsubscribed recipients to this section, along with any other segments you want to exit the campaign. This approach keeps the main diagram uncluttered by grouping all exit-related paths in one dedicated section.
Offer campaign
In an offer campaign, you can manage two paths for people who haven't interacted with your offer email or clicked but didn't redeem the offer. To do this, create a section called There is still time with a three-day delay and a reminder email. Then, set up a Redeem Offer section to check for redemptions and redirect paths accordingly. This approach ensures non-responders receive a reminder email and loop back to check for redemption.
Duplicating a campaign section
You can quickly replicate any section in your Orbit journey. This can ensure consistency across different sections, help test section variations, and reduce the risk of errors by maintaining all essential redirect paths and loopbacks.
To duplicate a section:
-
Open your campaign journey.
-
On the section you want to duplicate, click the ellipsis option menu, then click Duplicate.
The duplicated section appears at the end of the section list. You receive a notification upon successful duplication.
Orbit duplicates the section name with a (Copy) suffix.
You can rename your duplicated section, as required.
You can now reuse this duplicated section in your campaign journey.
Note: Any loopbacks in the section redirect to the new section.
Note: Path redirect steps that redirect to other sections in the journey are maintained.
Note: Duplicating a section removes any parent steps, except for loopbacks.
