Microsoft Dynamics 365

Note

Before you begin using your Microsoft Dynamics channel in Orbit campaigns, make sure you've followed the configuration steps in Setting up your Microsoft Dynamics custom object and table.

You can upsert (upload and insert) audience data to your Microsoft Dynamics 365 system from an Orbit campaign.

By adding a Microsoft Dynamics 365 step to the campaign journey, Orbit automatically upserts any audience data moving through the journey. This makes it easier to keep your CRM data up to date directly from your Orbit campaigns.

Setting up your Microsoft Dynamics channel

You can create Microsoft Dynamics 365 channels directly in Orbit. This allows you to use Microsoft Dynamics 365 in Orbit journeys to upload campaign data directly to your Microsoft Dynamics 365 tables.

Creating your channel

To create a new channel:

  1. Click your avatar in the top-right corner.
  2. Click Application Settings.

  3. Click Campaigning Channel Editor > Edit > + Item.

  4. Select Microsoft Dynamics Channel and Name your channel.
  5. Choose the parent folder, then click Create.

You’ve now created your channel.

Configuring your basic details

To configure your channel:

  1. Enter your Username. This is the email address you use to log in to Microsoft Dynamics 365.
  2. Enter your Password. This is your Microsoft Dynamics password.
  3. Enter the name of your Microsoft Dynamics table. For example, your object could be called cr1e5_model.

  4. Domain and Organisation. You can find these in your Microsoft Dynamics environment details.

  5. App Id: 51f81489-12ee-4a9e-aaae-a2591f45987d
  6. Redirect Uri: app://58145B91-0C36-4500-8554-080854F2AC97

Note

The App Id and Redirect Uri fields are generic and you must include these unless you create your own authenticator app.

Setting up field mappings

The field mapping section allows you to define fields for each Dynamics table column:

  • Name: The display name for your field
  • External Name: The actual Dynamics logical name
  • Key fields: Mark fields that serve as unique identifiers (This is typically the ExternalID field)

You can then map variables to the table fields by clicking + Add Variable.

This creates the necessary variables in your campaign journey upload without additional configuration.

Note

Click + Add Mapping to create additional mapped fields.

You’re now ready to use your Microsoft Dynamics channel in an Orbit campaign.

Using Microsoft Dynamics in a campaign

Once you've configured your Microsoft Dynamics channel, you can use it to upload data in Orbit campaigns.

To create a campaign with a Dynamics channel:

  1. Open an existing Orbit journey, or create a new one.
  2. Click the + to place your Microsoft Dynamics step.

  3. From the list of channels, select Microsoft Dynamics.

  4. Click your new Microsoft Dynamics journey step.

  5. Enter a meaningful Microsoft Dynamics Step Name.
  6. Click Create.

    The side panel now opens.

  7. Select the channel you created from the dropdown.

Configuring content fields

When you select your Dynamics channel, the system displays required content fields that weren't pre-mapped in the channel editor.

To configure these fields:

  1. Click Add to allow Orbit to create the required fields.

  2. For each unmapped field, expand the option menu and click Edit to choose how to populate it. See Message personalisation.

  3. Click Apply to save your field configurations.
  4. Click Publish.

The system uploads both:

  • The pre-mapped fields from your channel configuration
  • The fields you configured specifically for this campaign

You can view your model records directly in Microsoft Dynamics after your campaign runs.
