Notes for administrators

The following steps must be completed before upgrading by an administrator before applying a quarterly upgrade to your Apteco software.

Upgrading to a new release

To upgrade to a new release:

  1. Upgrade all components together

If you are upgrading to the latest version of Apteco software, then please upgrade all components to ensure compatibility with new features. For example, the Configuration tool, the FastStats Service, the FastStats WebService, Apteco FastStats and Apteco PeopleStage should all be from the same release. More details are available in the Upgrade Process document made available with the release.

  2. Features requiring FastStats data reload

There are no features in this release that require data in the Apteco FastStats system to be reloaded with FastStats Designer.

  3. Apteco software enterprise configuration files and template files

No template files have been changed in this release of the Apteco software.

  4. Apteco launcher installer

In earlier versions (pre-Q2 2018) the launcher .msi file was configured as a per-machine installer. This installer required UAC elevation. We have changed the launcher .msi to be a per-user installer. This means that by default the application is installed into the current user’s local application data folder and the UAC elevation is not required for installation. This should make upgrading and installation of the launcher application far easier for end users.

Note: If an older version of the launcher was installed by a per-machine installer then UAC Elevation is still required when upgrading as the installer requires sufficient permissions to perform a per-machine uninstall.

  5. FastStats Service configuration

A one timechange is required when first introducing the Orbit Audience tool. In order for files to be transferred from the FastStats Service to Orbit (to download exported files), the URL of the Orbit API will need to be added to the 'Web Server' section of the FastStats Service Configuration.

Note: Since the Q2 2023 release, all tiers of Apteco software now require a minimum of the .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later to be installed.
